What is ECO4?

ECO4 is the latest phase of the UK Government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme. It provides funding for energy efficiency improvements, with a focus on supporting households who need it most.

The scheme helps to lower energy bills, reduce carbon emissions, and upgrade homes with poor Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings.

Through ECO4, households can receive fully funded improvements including:

  • Air Source Heat Pumps

  • Solar PV (Solar Panels)

  • Loft, Cavity Wall, or Solid Wall Insulation

  • Heating System Upgrades

Please note: In order to receive funding for additional measures such as solar panels or insulation, an Air Source Heat Pump must be included as part of the upgrade package

A household health condition
  • Respiratory: Asthma, COPD
  • Cardiovascular: High blood pressure, heart disease, ongoing heart medication
  • Immunosuppressed: Lupus, type 1 or 2 diabetes, ongoing cancer treatment
  • Mobility: Limited or restricted mobility
OR
Means-tested benefit
A household occupant receives a means-tested benefit.

ECO4 is the current phase of the government's Energy Company Obligation. It funds free or subsidised home improvements - like insulation and heating upgrades - for eligible households, to lower bills and reduce carbon emissions.

You may qualify if your home has a low EPC rating and someone in your household receives a qualifying benefit, such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Tax Credits. If you don't receive benefits, you may still qualify through ECO4 Flex.

ECO4 Flex is a route into the scheme for households that don't receive benefits but are still considered vulnerable - for example, a household income below £31,000, or a resident with a health condition affected by cold or damp housing. Your local council determines eligibility for this route.

Typically loft, cavity or solid wall insulation, and heating upgrades such as a new boiler or heat pump, depending on what your home needs and what a survey identifies.

Yes - ECO4 is the current phase of the scheme, funded through to November 2026. We'll confirm current availability when we check your eligibility.

ECO4 helps households reduce energy bills, improve comfort, and upgrade inefficient homes through funded energy‑saving measures. It can increase your property’s EPC rating, lower carbon emissions, and provide long‑term savings by installing modern, efficient heating and insulation

Once your eligibility is confirmed, we’ll arrange a Retrofit Assessment for your property. An in‑house Assessor will complete a whole‑house survey, taking photos and measurements to identify which ECO-funded improvements are suitable. Using this information, our Retrofit Coordinator will create an Improvement Plan outlining the recommended measures and installation order. Our operations team will then schedule the installation and advise on timings. After the work is completed, we’ll submit all compliance paperwork to our funders so you can simply enjoy the improvements and the energy savings.
